Game Starter

Are you interested in starting a career in the games industry, but don't know how to proceed? Find advice and tips in our Game Starter event series, where experienced industry experts share their knowledge with you. Hamburg is not only a hotspot for the development of computer games, but also for numerous vocational schools and universities that offer courses specifically for future professionals in the games industry.
Especially for students and career starters, the exchange with experienced industry members is essential to know more about the requirements in the individual disciplines and to prepare for them. Gamecity Hamburg promotes this exchange with the new, regular event format Game Starter. Videos of past Game Starter events can be viewed on this page at any time.

Pitch Level Up

Want to bring your pitch to the next level? At the Pitch Level Up event participants get feedback on their game pitch deck from different games industry experts in 1:1 sessions. Also they can learn more about pitching, contracts, negotiations and finding a publisher in talks by industry professionals – all in just one day!
During the event you can book (up to) three feedback sessions with our team of experts. Each session offers a 30-minute time slot, consisting of your pitch presentation for 10 minutes and individual feedback from your coach for 20 minutes. Get valuable, honest and constructive feedback from people who have seen hundreds of pitches – all in a “safe space”, without possibly spoiling any future chances.
In addition there is a talk program during the event: Expert speakers will tell you all about financing and publishing your game.

Gamecity Impulse

Gamers are diverse: Around 2,2 billion people around the world play video games, coming from a multitude of ethnic and religious backgrounds, nationalities, genders and sexual identities, abilities, age and language groups. The communities that form around games and the teams that make the games aren't always as diverse. This has already sparked a host of discussions throughout the games industry and community.
As Gamecity Hamburg, we want to contribute to the important discourse by hosting talks and panel discussions on diversity-related topics in different fields of the games industry and gaming culture in our digital event series “Gamecity Impulse”.

Games Compass

Safer Space
Code of Conduct - Safer Space
Gamecity Hamburg aims to provide a harassment-free experience for everyone regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religion.
We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
● Any comments (written or verbal) that reinforce social structures of domination (related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion)
● Sexual images in public spaces
● Unsolicited sexual advances
● Advocating for or encouraging any of the above-mentioned behavior
Should you feel uncomfortable to any extent throughout the duration of the event, please approach a team member of Gamecity Hamburg or any of the bar personnel at the venue with the safe word “Ist Kamilla da? / Is Kamilla here? ”. You will be escorted away from the situation - no questions asked. You will be able to identify us through shirts, name tags, lanyards or stickers at all events.
Participants asked to stop their harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If said person fails to comply, they will be expelled from the event and excluded from future iterations.
Contact Person
If you need to talk to us after the event, don’t hesitate to write to Anna (anna.jaeger@gamecity-hamburg.de) or office@gamecity-hamburg.de and we will get back to you. If there is anything you want to let us know anonymously you can use our feedback form.
Pronouns
Why we ask for your pronouns
For most people, pronouns are an important part of their identity. Using the correct pronouns is a form of recognition and respect for a person's gender identity and helps to acknowledge their existence, experiences, and self-definition.
If everyone – even those who are usually not misgendered and in general don’t (need) to put a lot of thought in the topic – openly shares their pronouns at as many occasions as possible, this helps a great deal with creating a safer space for everyone by raising awareness, ensuring respectful interaction and avoiding discrimination or unintentional mistakes.
We therefore encourage all of you to share your pronouns when registering for our events. Even if you don’t see a benefit for you personally - it might just make a huge difference for others. This is however not mandatory: if you don’t feel comfortable with sharing your pronouns, you can also always choose not to specify them.
