Game Starter Level Design
Our three industry experts talked about how they got the idea to work in the games industry, how different their careers and paths into the industry were, and revealed whether you need a formal education or a matching degree to design good levels.
They also reported on their day-to-day work, the collaboration between level design and other game development departments, the processes from the first level concept to the finished, balanced and tested level ready for release. This also revealed some differences between the workflows in the three companies our experts come from.
They shared tips on how future level designers could expand and improve both their skills and their portfolio at the same time, and recounted what surprised them when they first entered the industry and what they wished they had already known at the time.
They answered many questions submitted by the audience of the live stream, such as how the level design team knows that one phase of development is complete and they can proceed to the next, how they coordinate processes and collaboration within the team, especially when working on the same level, and, upon request, gave tips on how producers could be more accommodating to level designers and improve communication.
