Gamecity Impulse: Gaming Communities - Competitive & Caring
This is a past event - ► Watch the recording here
Competition, rage, toxicity, and memes might seem more typical of gaming communities than kindness and mutual respect. However, several Community Managers recently focused on fostering comfort and positivity among their players - and they have been convincingly successful!
In his talk, Manuel Manhard form the Initiative "Keinen Pixel den Faschisten" invited the audience to explore the diverse challenges and approaches of building friendly, helpful and accepting communities: for a better gaming experience, and even enhanced welfare beyond that.
This event was the third issue of our online event series Gamecity Impulse which deals with questions of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion with regard to the games industry and gaming culture.
About our guest speaker:
Manuel Manhard studied and worked in history and social sciences before switching to game development. He is now working as a developer in his own company machina cogitans. Manuel gained experience with community management while working for the indie studio Pocketwatch and is standing up against discrimination and racism as an active member of the initiative “Keinen Pixel den Faschisten”.
