Hamburg's games industry offers 3-week school internship

On the initiative of the industry association game Hamburg, three games companies are offering a comprehensive three-week internship program for 20 9th grade students at Hamburg schools at the end of June. Applications are possible until April 29!

During the internship from June 13 to July 1, 2022, experts from game development practice and media educators will provide comprehensive insights into the creation process of computer games with practical tasks in game design, programming, audio, and many other areas of work. InnoGames, Deep Silver FISHLABS and Tivola Games, the Hamburg regional chapter of the association game, HAW - University of Applied Sciences Hamburg and Gamecity Hamburg are participating in the School Internship Games.

After the purely digital premiere of the School Internship Games last year, this year there will be mix between on-site workshops and as visits to the participating game companies and online events for the students. Every day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the students will meet on the premises of the Hamburg-based games studio InnoGames. During visits to various Hamburg games companies and the HAW Hamburg, the students will get to know the city's games landscape. Experts from Hamburg games companies will give practical insights into their everyday work, talk about their careers and answer the students' questions. The participants also become active themselves and approach the professional fields of the professionals practically through exercises and the examination of game mechanics. The last day ends with a presentation of the games and content created during the internship.

Application for the school internship Games

From now until April 29, Hamburg students of the 9th grade of all school types can apply for 20 available places for the school internship Games from June 13 to July 1, 2022: To apply, simply send an email with the subject "Bewerbung 2022" to hamburg@schulpraktikum-games.de. In addition to the name, age, contact details, school and all other usual details for an application, the following question should be answered: "In the development of which game title would you have liked to be involved and which task would you have taken on?" The application may also be submitted as a video with a maximum length of 45 seconds. The internship is recognized by schools as the company internship scheduled for grade 9 in the curriculum.

The school internship Games is a good example of the strong network between university, companies and initiatives to bring together the next generation of developers for the vibrant games industry location Hamburg on the way. The offer is organized and carried out by the Initiative Creative Gaming in close coordination with all involved partners.

More events for students

In addition to the school internship in games, Gamecity Hamburg also offers other opportunities to introduce students to the games industry as a professional perspective. In the "Gamecity@School" program, students meet experts from the games industry for two school hours, who share insights and experiences from their everyday working lives.
