Meet the five indie teams from Hamburg
Godcomplex Games - Stack 'Em Up
This newly founded indie studio consists of HAW Hamburg graduates, was part of the Games Lift Incubator 2022, and subsequently received prototype funding in 2023. Godcomplex Games are working on their first game Stack 'Em Up.
Stack 'Em Up is a fast-paced online and offline multiplayer party game for up to four players. In the game, players absorb and combine slimes with powerful abilities, which they can “stack” to take out their opponents in battle. Insanely funny, fast-paced and with great attention to detail.
Markus Koepke - Journey Beyond the Edge of the World
Markus Koepke is a solo developer and has already successfully produced formats and films as a cinematographer. In 2023, he took part in Gamecity Hamburg's Games Lift Incubator and was able to further develop his first immersive first-person game Journey Beyond the Edge of the World.
Journey Beyond the Edge of the World is an immersive, first-person adventure set on an abandoned fishing trawler in the middle of the North Sea in the 1950s. Players explore the ship and its mysterious history, which is gradually revealed through puzzles, radio transmissions and atmospheric music. After solving the puzzles and chapters, additional music tracks can be unlocked, drawing players deeper and deeper into the story. A unique, immersive experience.
Pipapo Games - Map Map - A Game About Maps
Pipapo Games is a newly founded, female-led indie studio by HAW Hamburg graduates with a focus on cozy and humorous games. In 2023, they further developed their project in the Games Lift Incubator and received Gamecity Hamburg prototype funding in 2024.
In the cozy exploration game Map Map - A Game About Maps, players slip into the role of adventure-seeking cartographers who explore and map the surroundings on unknown picturesque islands, complete small tasks for their friends and thus get closer and closer to the trail of a buried treasure. With lots of humor and colorful 3D graphics, the game is particularly appealing to cozy gamers and adventurers. The game is available for pre-order via Steam.
Slime King - Under the Island
Slime King Games are Joachim and Simone Grünewald, with over ten years of experience in the games industry, working on Under the Island together with their skilled team.
Under the Island delivers stunning 2D graphics and an in-depth RPG adventure story. After moving to Seashell Island, the protagonist Nia must save her island from sinking, together with new friends. Solve puzzles, fight monsters, and explore dungeons: Under the Island brings the classic content of well-made old-school RPGs and adds new ideas and a great soundtrack by Miyoko Takaoka (Sonic, Terranigma, among others). The game focuses on the feeling of being able to experience endless adventures through games and immerse yourself in uncharted worlds. The publisher of Under the Island is Top Hat Studios.
Sven Ahlgrimm & Mathilde Hoffmann - ODDADA
The developer duo Ahlgrimm and Hoffmann are based in Berlin and Hamburg. Mathilde Hoffmann from Hamburg has been a successful sound designer and composer for games for many years (including Unrailed, Deep Space Gardening, Closer the Distance, and many more) and Sven Ahlgrimm is an experienced programmer, artist, and game creator. Well-connected and with a lot of experience under their belts, they are bringing an extraordinary music game to gamescom in form of ODDADA.
In this beautifully animated music construction kit game, players create musical landscapes and songs. Machines become instruments, small buildings transform into sound companions, and new melodies unlock through combining. A colorful construction kit for music enthusiasts, with a lot of love for sound, music, and creative game design. A playable demo will be presented at the Indie Arena Booth at gamescom. The release is planned for Q3 2024.
