Applications for prototype funding 2023 open March 3

From today, March 3 to April 5, founders, start-ups, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can apply for the prototype funding. Applicants can apply for up to 120,000 euros for the development of prototypes for digital games. Through the funding program, Gamecity Hamburg will provide a total of 400,000 euros for game developers on behalf of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in 2023.

Developers, teams and companies can apply from March 3 for the Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding. All application documents have to be submitted until April 5, 2023 (11:59 pm). If you are interested, please note, that you have complete a mandatory consultation with Gamecity Hamburg, best two weeks before you submit your application, so that we can clear all questions beforehanbd.

Who can apply?

  • developers and developer associations
  • or small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),
  • who are based in Hamburg
  • or who are relocating their headquarters to Hamburg
  • or are opening a branch office/branch of operations in Hamburg

How much funding can be applied for?
Funding is provided for 80 percent of the eligible costs for the creation of prototypes of digital games. If no cumulation with another public funding program (such as the federal  computer games funding (Computerspielförderung des Bundes) or EU funds) is sought, a maximum of 80,000 euros can be applied for. In the case of planned cumulation with other funding programs, projects can be funded with up to 120,000 euros. The rule that the applicants' own contribution must be at least 20 percent of the project costs still applies in the case of cumulation, as do, of course, the rules of the respective other funding programs.

If you need to know more about the timeline and the games that have been funded, check them out here and read our FAQ for the prototype funding here
