Federal Games Funding: Applications open again from January 1, 2023
Good news for the German games industry: as of January 1, developers and studios can submit applications for the federal funding for video games. The funding for 2023 amounts to 20 million euros, and it is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For German developers and studios, some good news is already arriving for Christmas: They can apply for federal funding for video games with their projects from January 1, 2023. The funding pot for 2023 is filled with 20 million euros, and thanks to the first-come, first-served principle, all applicants should not wait too long with their applications.
Federal funding for video games in overview:
- Funding for the development of prototypes and production of computer games
- Funding rate of up to 50%
- Plannability through minimum criteria
- Application consulting and processing by the project management organization DLR
The funding is provided in the form of a non-repayable grant and is aimed at companies with headquarters or branches in Germany. According to the specifications of the European Commission, a computer game must pass a cultural test about game content and cultural background as a requirement for funding. Prototype development costs must be at least 30,000 euros and can be a maximum of 400,000 euros. For production funding, the development costs of a game must be at least 100,000 euros.
