For two days on March 5 and 6, 2024, the Hamburg Games Conference drew eager devs, studios, publishers and media into the maritime atmosphere of the Altonaer Museum. More than 350 conference guests came to Hamburg from all over Germany as well as several countries from all over the world. Rightly so, as the Hamburg Games Conference offered a total of 17 talks, 5 panel discussions and many more insights and networking opportunities.

With the theme "Gaming meets Business", the two stages focused on investments and licensing, current M&A trends, AI and technological innovations in game development, case studies on best practices, and panels on the state of the games industry. A total of 42 speakers and panelists from different parts of the games industry as well as from the investors’ side contributed to the program.

Comprehensive program & Expo area

The insightful stage program was supplemented by the workshop "The Current Challenges for Public and Private Funding in Europe" with Prof. Odile Limpach, the roundtable "State of the Art of Artificial Intelligence Use Cases in the Games and Entertainment Industries" with Dr. Ralph Oliver Graef and Fabian Stösser, and the Indie Arena Booth Pitch Royal.

Those who were in the mood for some activity after productive meetings and stimulating presentations could explore the Expo area, where not only various companies from the gaming industry were present, but also the 7 developer teams with their games, who were able to secure a place at the Gamecity Hamburg stand as part of our Road to program. Find out all about them in our article.

Business Meetings & Current Topics

Beside the versatile program, networking and face-to-face exchange played a major role: The business area in the museum’s café was busy as a beehive – nearly 500 meetings were organized via MeetToMatch by the attendees for making new contacts, opening up new business opportunities and exchanging views on industry developments. Perfect for the 70 industry people, who obtained sponsored Opportunity Tickets after being affected by the current industry layoffs. The get-together on the evening of the first conference day provided even more room for casual exchange and meeting new people from the international games industry.

Nearly 400 Business Meetings were held in the Altonaer Museum's special ambiente.

Job Spotlight: Bytro

Bytro is a well-established institution in the Hamburg games industry and the mobile and browser games market. Their first game, Supremacy 1914, will turn 15 years old in May of 2024. This is a rare milestone for any game, especially considering that this historic war strategy game might not exactly be a mainstream product. The key to running a successful company for a long time is, of course, the people. As Bytro is currently hiring, we spoke to Felix Schröter, the interim Lead for Analytics and Monetization. He has had many different opportunities at Bytro and gave us deeper insights into the company and their current job openings.
