The Regreening

By Positive Impact Games

Funded with 80,000 €

Prototype Funding 2024

The Regreening is a cozy nature restoration simulation game inspired by real world projects. As the last human on the planet, plant seeds to restore biomes, mend friendships with folklore animals, and bring back life to the Earth. The game is a twist on the classic cozy farming simulation game that puts the player in a position of having a positive rather than exploitative role in their environment.

- “First the plants dried up, then the soil disappeared, and finally the rain stopped falling. What can we do in the face of such disaster?”
- “We can try.”

About the Game

In The Regreening, players will step into the shoes of Viri, the last human on Earth. The core gameplay is framed by stories focusing on the various needs of native animals of European folklore creatures and personalities.
As a reward for completing quests, you will be given items such as new seeds, or abilities which will allow you to travel to previously unavailable locations in the map; thus progression to new biomes.
The game has a cyclical day format with different activities available during specific times. When the evening comes, you can sit by a bonfire and, depending on your relationships with NPCs, some may join you for a cozy bonding time.

In addition to the regreening mechanic, there’s a number of abilities that the player unlocks over time by helping folklore animal NPC’s. They are key to progressing in the story and throughout later areas.

Instead of cutting trees down for resources, you plant them. Instead of selling crops for money, you collect seeds and grow more to improve the biodiversity and habitat so that animals can return.
The Regreening is a game that puts the player in the unique position to make a positive impact in the world, not only for themselves but for dozens of species.

But none of them can shake off the feeling that the others are also looking for something from the past of this “lost place” - and will go to any lengths to find it.
