Babsi Bullet

By Team Marty

Games Lift 2022

Part teenager, part bullet: our eponymous heroine Babsi Bullet is a living missile. The 12-year-old fights otherworldly creatures on a flying alien planet that is menacingly approaching Earth.

Chalk Desert is the starting level where Babsi takes her first steps – or shots.

About the Game

Babsi Bullet is a 2D action game designed primarily for touchscreen, combining shooter gameplay with casual game mechanics. Babsi’s capabilities are extremely limited – she can neither run nor jump. Still, gamers can move Babsi by shooting the character from enemy to enemy – like a bullet. Controls are very simple: tap (or click) on the opponents. The aliens collapse when touched, and Babsi takes their place on the screen. In this way, players advance towards the end of the level.

The gameplay may seem simple. However, the level creates a demanding skill test. Babsi certainly is tough, but not invulnerable. Endlessly respawning, often quite resistant enemies and huge, multi-level end bosses make for sweaty gameplay. Fortunately, Babsi occasionally can transform into other types of ammunition: e.g. a bomb, in case an obstacle is too big or an alien is too bulletproof. Experienced gamers should also try out the additional missions on the interactive world map. Babsi Bullet is easy to learn, but hard to master.

Opponents here are both a threat and necessary to maneuver Babsi through a deadly spike corridor.

The Team

“Team Marty” are three people from Hamburg: André Peschka, responsible for programming, Christian Plinke, for sound and music, and René Zimmermann, in charge of concept and artwork. We make games with easy-to-learn mechanics and a good amount of attitude. Typical for indie developers, all our games are after-work projects. While we don't work on video games full-time, our tasks within the team match our professional expertise – mixed with a portion of autodidactics. Babsi Bullet is the second game we have started (our debut “Marty McFart” made it to a playable demo) and the first to receive funding – what we consider a good sign for Babsi Bullet to hit the mark.

There are many dangerous areas on the alien planet, such as the Fungi Swamps (draft), which unfortunately cannot be avoided.
