Job Spotlight: Bytro

Bytro is a well-established institution in the Hamburg games industry and the mobile and browser games market. Their first game, Supremacy 1914, will turn 15 years old in May of 2024. This is a rare milestone for any game, especially considering that this historic war strategy game might not exactly be a mainstream product. The key to running a successful company for a long time is, of course, the people. As Bytro is currently hiring, we spoke to Felix Schröter, the interim Lead for Analytics and Monetization. He has had many different opportunities at Bytro and gave us deeper insights into the company and their current job openings.

Tell us a bit about your job and your career at Bytro. You've been with the company for almost eight years now. How did you get started and what does Bytro do right to keep you on board?
My journey at Bytro has been quite unique in many ways – but then again, also representative of how Bytro works. I joined the company as a Community Manager but quickly found that my academic background in media studies allowed me to get involved in many other topics as well. Over the years I transitioned from CM to project manager and team lead for diverse topics such as customer support, LiveOps, and Analytics. What kept me here was the great culture of camaraderie and empowerment that made journeys such as mine possible in the first place.

You’re now interim Lead for the Analytics and Monetization teams, what does this job entail and who do you work with?
First and foremost, I am facilitating the work of our Game Analysts and Monetization experts and driving the strategic direction of the departments. But I also work closely with business leads from product and marketing to make sure that their analytics and monetization needs are met and that our experts have the best possible impact on the products.

Bytro is currently hiring for multiple positions that relate to yours: Head of Game Design and Monetisation and Lead Analyst. What are you looking for in candidates for these specific positions?
For the Head of Game Design and Monetisation, we seek a leader with extensive experience in game design and monetization strategies, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of game economics. Working with our team of game designers and monetization experts, they will contribute to making our games even more enticing, long-living and marketable.

For the Lead Analyst position, we're looking for a strategic leader to shape our analytics direction, enhance our BI capabilities, and develop our talented team of game analysts. They will have the chance to work on a broad variety of topics and tasks, from preparing and supporting game launches to leveling up Bytro’s Analytics setup.

Both roles require a passion for gaming and a collaborative mindset to drive our projects forward.

Can you tell us a bit about the collaboration style and workflow in your team?
At Bytro, we generally try to foster a highly collaborative but also flexible work environment. Our teams are composed of self-motivated experts who work autonomously but know when and how to look for help – or offer it. Meetings are kept efficient and relevant, involving only those who can contribute meaningfully. Hierarchies are flat and every colleague – be it your teammate or the CEO – is only one desk away.

Of course, culture is an important part of many when choosing their next position. Who will feel right at home in your team/company?
What resonates most with me personally is Bytro’s commitment to autonomy, sustainable development, and continuous learning. This is supported by a culture of empowerment, where everyone is encouraged to contribute their best. I also appreciate Bytro’s diverse and inclusive environment, welcoming people of all ages, genders, abilities, and sexual orientations. If you enjoy working in a diverse and dynamic team that values creativity and personal growth, you'll feel right at home here.

A short and sweet bookend: can you describe in three words what it’s like to work at Bytro?
Sure! I’ll pick: Supportive, Empowering, Passionate.
