Hamburg - the second largest city in Germany, one of the most important shipping ports in Europe and a popular metropolitan region, known for the Elbphilharmonie, St. Pauli and a high quality of life. But Hamburg is much more than that, with its growing games industry.

Hamburg is home to more than 180 games companies and around 2,500 employees, there is no way around Hamburg when it comes to games! Whether it’s big names like InnoGames, Daedalic, Goodgame Studios, Fishlabs or indie game studios like Tiny Roar and THREAKS: many exciting games and game makers come from here. We have compiled an overview of five highlights of the local games industry for you:

CHORUS

In the space shooter CHORUS you take control of Nara, who is on a dangerous mission to destroy the dark cult that created her. The game was awarded the German Video Game Award (Deutscher Computerspielpreis) in the category "Best German Game". The developers Fishlabs can already look back on a long track record, starting with the development of premium mobile games to their current focus on console and PC games. EVERSPACE 2

Everspace 2, the sequel to the popular space shooter Everspace, takes you on a thrilling adventure with an action-packed story and RPG elements. ROCKFISH Games have been able to draw attention to Everspace 2 through successful Kickstarter campaigns and over 90% positive reviews since the launch of Early Access in 2021. BATTLE BROTHERS

Battle Brothers is a turn-based tactical fantasy RPG, which stands out especially through its procedurally generated open-world campaigns. It was developed by Overhype Studios, a Hamburg-based indie studio that makes a point of continuing to be gamers alongside and through their work. LOST EMBER

In Lost Ember you'll explore the remains of a lost civilization and explore fascinating worlds alternatingly as a fox, bird or fish. Lost Ember was developed by Mooneye Studios, who have made a name for themselves with narrative and emotional games since 2014. GOLLUM

In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, you can explore Tolkien's universe from Gollum's perspective and use stealth mechanics to search for the one ring. Daedalic Entertainment, both developer and publisher of Gollum, already celebrated international successes especially with titles like Edna & Harvey: The Breakout and Deponia. A HARBOR FOR MOBILE GAMES

Hamburg not only has a huge shipping port, but also a large pool of successful mobile games studios that call the beautiful Hanseatic city their home. These include the popular games Forge of Empires (InnoGames), Goodgame Empire (Goodgame Studios) and Farmerama (Bigpoint), whose development started in Hamburg and which continue to be headquartered here and receive new updates on a regular basis. Also, the sucessful free-to-play publisher gamigo offers many games from its Hamburg-based headquarters.
