2026: Application periods for Gamecity Hamburg's funding programs

Are you planning to apply for one of our funding programs, Prototype Funding or the Games Lift Incubator? Here are the most important deadlines for your applications in 2026:

Prototype Funding: February 23 - March 30, 2026 

Up to 400,000 euros in funding is available for Hamburg-based developers in our Prototype Funding program for 2026. The funding is non-repayable and is granted for a maximum of 80,000 euros and a maximum of 80 percent of eligible costs. Find out all about how to apply on the application page

Games Lift Incubator: April 27 - June 1, 2026

The Games Lift incubator supports up to five teams of developers. For one year, they receive a workshop program led by experienced industry experts, financial support of 15,000 euros, individual mentoring, space for collaboration, and much more. 2026: Application phases for our “Road to” programs: 

Be part of our "Road to gamescom" program in August 2026

As part of the “Road to” programs, Hamburg-based development teams can apply to present their game to potential publishers and players at a Gamecity Hamburg booth at different trade fairs or conventions.

Upcoming Gamecity Hamburg Events 2026

Game Starter - January 27, 2026

In the first edition of or online event "Game Starter" in 2026, on January 27, we'll take a look at the world of game programming, with a special focus on the Unity, Unreal, and Godot engines. Three industry experts will talk about their careers, their day-to-day work, and what newcomers interested in a career in game programming should know. Pitch Level Up - February 17, 2026

Do you want to get 1:1 feedback on your game pitch? Then come to our Pitch Level Up 2026 on February 17, from 11 am to 6 pm: Receive individual feedback from experienced games industry professionals from different perspectives – to optimize your pitch for publishers, media, investors, or funding agencies. Pixel & Popcorn - February 24, 2026

Our event in cooperation with NERDIC is entering its second round. Secure your ticket now for the event, where indie games from Hamburg will be played on the big screen and behind-the-scenes insights will be shared with you. Gamecity Treff - Save the Date: March 26, 2026

Planning is already in full swing, so mark your calendars for March 26, 2026, the date of our first Gamecity Treff in 2026. Exchange ideas with professionals from the games industry, take part in the Business Speed Meeting, or relax with snacks and cool drinks. Tickets will be available soon.  

Portside Game Assembly - June 25 & 26, 2026  

Our B2B event is entering its second year. Once again, we will invite international indie game studios to exchange ideas on a conference ship, as well as discuss topics, engage in in-depth conversations at various locations, and celebrate at the big closing party. Hamburg-based indie studio Morse Morse Games released the open-world space adventure "Cosmodrill" on July 6, 2026.

Success for Portside Game Assembly 2026 - will return 2027

On June 25 and 26, we once again celebrated Portside Game Assembly 2026, a conference for international exchange among indie game studios, with around 100 indie game professionals from 13 countries, including a cruise on the conference ship through the Hamburg Harbour.

Road to Polaris 2026 - Apply until July 28

The community convention Polaris takes place on October 9-11 with a three-day program including gaming, anime and manga, cosplay, and content creation. Gamecity Hamburg provides free booth packages for Hamburg-based developers, teams, and studios. Join us to get valuable feedback and visibility for your game. Applications are open until July 28.

Pipapo Games releases Map Map - A Game about Maps

Pipapo Games released their cozy exploration game “Map Map - A Game about Maps”. The indie developer Team was part of several programs of Gamecity Hamburg and already received many prizes for their unique take on the popular cozy game genre.

Zintank Labs release Cosmic Run

Our Prototype Funding recipient Zinktank Labs finally release their game "Cosmic Run". Battle your way through space in this fast-paced, colorful action game - with aliens!

Portside Game Assembly 2026: Program and Speakers Announced

The program for our second edition of our Portside Game Assembly on June 25 & 26 is ready to be announced: Among others, Rebecca Lautner (Landfall, “PEAK”) and Mark Cooke (Shiny Shoe, “Monster Train”) will speak about the development of their hit titles. The conference program, which is targeted at established indie studios, focuses on fostering exchange among studio heads and founders through short talks and roundtables.
