Prototype Funding 2025: Applications open until April 7

Applications for Gamecity Hamburg's 2025 prototype funding are open from March 3 to April 7. This year's funding round provides 400,000 euros in total and up to 80,000 euros per accepted application team.

Gamecity Hamburg's Prototype Funding will return in 2025 to support developers and game studios (natural and legal persons) in the creation of prototypes for digital games. The funding is non-repayable and is granted for a maximum of 80,000 euros and a maximum of 80 percent of the eligible costs. At the end of the application phase, an award committee consisting of experts from the games industry will decide on the teams to be funded.

Developers, teams and companies can apply from March 3 for the Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding. All application documents have to be submitted until April 7, 2025 (11:59 pm).

Who can apply for Prototype Funding 2025?

  • developers and developer associations
  • or small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),
  • who are based in Hamburg
  • or who are relocating their headquarters to Hamburg
  • or are opening a branch office/branch of operations in Hamburg

A consultation with Gamecity Hamburg is mandatory and is recommended at least two weeks before the submission deadline on April 7 in order to optimally prepare developers for the application. Interested people can contact funding@gamecity-hamburg.de to arrange an appointment.

Answering our Diversity Checklist introduced in 2024 is mandatory when applying for Prototype Funding. Applicants' answers can optionally be used by the awarding committee when evaluating projects. Applications whose team and/or project enriches the diversity of Hamburg's games industry can receive a bonus in the evaluation by the awarding committee. Vice versa, applicants will not suffer any disadvantage in the evaluation process.
