Application open for German federal computer game funding

Since December 2024, applications for the German federal government's computer game funding (Computerspielförderung des Bundes) can be submitted again.
The following guidelines apply:
Funding is available for the development of prototypes and projects with a minimum volume of 300,000 euros and a maximum funding amount of two million euros. Development costs up to 900,000 euros are funded by the BKM, projects exceeding this amount are funded by the BMWK. The restriction here is that projects that extend beyond 2025 cannot yet be funded from BMWK funds, but the applications for these can already be submitted.
Depending on the funding quota that is granted, own funds must amount to at least 50 percent of the eligible costs.
The funding rate depends on the size of the company:
- Large companies receive a maximum funding quota of 25 percent
- Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) receive a maximum of 45 percent
- Start-ups receive a maximum of 50 percent
As of now, cumulation with state funds is not possible. Funding requirements include a culture test and mandatory age labeling.
The funding is granted as a non-repayable grant.
