Recap: Road to gamescom 2021
This years' gamescom took place digitally from August 25 to 29. With multiple streaming-events and the biggest shared developer booth as an interactive colorful multiplayer game, the Indie Arena Booth Online was an impressive digital version of their past gamescom appearences. With the Road to gamescom program Gamecity Hamburg enabled five teams to be part of this unique experience.
The Indie Arena Booth Online was planned and produced by Hamburg-based Super Crowd Entertainment. Since the global pandemic 2020 made physical events nearly impossible, the Indie Arena Booth was designed as a fully playable multiplayer platform that helped visitors get a immersive trade fair experience in their web-browser. They explored the online world as avatars, a world that was designed as a Mad-Max-styled "Summercamp of Doom". The visitors joined live-chats, watched trailers, screenshots, and played demos, and they could go on a treasure hunt for stickers and many easter eggs on 13 different in-game worlds.
Successful Online Multiplayer
This year, the Indie Arena Booth Online could gather over 16,600 unique users who in total spent 25,000 hours on the digital platform with an average playtime of 100 minutes. The 4400 average interactions per booth are an example of how the Indie Arena Booth was able to successfully lean into the mechanisms of the game medium to get visitors hooked on the online world.
Indie games made in Hamburg
Tiny Roar, Mooneye Studios, OneManOnMars, Klickaffen and Radioactive Dreams made it into the Road to gamescom program and showcased their latest projects and games. Find out more about these developers in our news article on the start of the Indie Arena Booth Online.
Five teams and studios were able to present themselves with the Road to gamescom program and benefited from using the access to the devcom B2B conference, arrangement of press and streamer contacts an matchmaking with potential business parents. At the preparatory workshop for the participating teams, Wolf Lang, CEO of Super Crowd Entertainment, gave insights and tipps about creating a trade fair strategy and find the best use of the Indie Arena Booth, devcom and gamescom.
